David Pumphrey, PT, DPT

Dr. David Pumphrey earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University's College of Allied Health Professions. While at VCU, he conducted research through the VCU Run Lab that focused on identifying abnormalities in running mechanics. He has contributed to multiple journal publications and was selected to present his research at the APTA's annual Combined Sections Meeting. The research he assisted with identifies if runners are at risk for developing injuries, and helps to determine when it is appropriate for runners to return to their sport.

Dr. Pumphrey is Functional Movement Screen, Level 1 and Selective Functional Movement Assessment, level 1 Certified by Functional Movement Systems. He is also the only Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) level 2 Medical Professional in the Richmond Area. This certification allows him to treat golf-related injury and improve golf performance by optimizing biomechanics for an effective and efficient swing. He is using this experience in his daily practice in Richmond to help athletes decrease the risk for re-injury and to return to sport stronger than before.

Prior to pursuing a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, David earned his Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from James Madison University. He enjoys running, golfing, cooking, watching soccer and football, singing, and fishing in his spare time.
