Dr. DeAlto earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from Virginia Tech. After graduating she joined the Peace Corps, serving as a Health Volunteer in Cameroon, Africa where she educated villagers on water hygiene sanitation techniques, nutrition, family planning and HIV/AIDs prevention and created a girl's empowerment club with high school girls. After her service, she pursued her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating in 2017. During her time in physical therapy school she was an instrumental founding member of the CARES clinic which provides pro bono physical therapy services to the uninsured in the Richmond area. The CARES clinic is operated by VCU physical therapy students where they are given the opportunity to practice skills under the supervision of a clinician.

Sam loves meeting new people and learning new skills. She is passionate about orthopedic injuries, assessing functional movement and working with runners and soccer players. In her free time, Sam enjoys volunteering at the CARES clinic, hanging out with friends, swimming, biking, running and watching Orioles baseball and Virginia Tech football.
