Helen Shepard, PT, DPT
Dr. Helen Shepard originally became interested in physical therapy when she was a high school athlete and then a personal trainer in college. She graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science and Psychology where her thesis research was on self-myofascial release. She then earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of the Pacific in California. Additionally, she is certified in dry needling through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy and maintains membership with the American Physical Therapy Association. Helen has a special interest working with athletes and worked as the primary physical therapist for the Charlottesville Ballet. During her first few years of practice, her interest in orthopaedics and manual therapy grew, and she is now an orthopaedic resident with the Virginia Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Institute (VOMPTI). In her spare time she enjoys weight lifting, CrossFit, and hiking with her dog, Ryman, and husband, Austin.
